Our Why
MyMahi was developed as a tool to help schools and other educational organisations develop the whole learner. At the time of inception, Jeff was a Deputy Principal at a secondary school in New Zealand and saw that a lot of schools were grappling with the issue of how to achieve this. They wanted to focus on more than curriculum subjects but that required a huge amount of extra work for teachers and more autonomy for learners.
The Māori term “mahi” was chosen because it represents “work, accomplish, perform, practise”, everything the platform is working to encapsulate. A Learner profile is all about celebrating and the recording the highlights and accomplishments all people experience. Things have developed over time and that is thanks to the fantastic support and feedback the team has received from learners, mentors and teachers.
